Text and Code Diff

Paste original and changed text to generate a bounded unified line comparison.

How this tool works

Line diff is useful for configuration, logs, documentation, and code where textual edits matter. This complements the existing JSON/YAML structural diff, which compares parsed values.

Large files are capped to avoid quadratic work. The report does not understand syntax or business meaning.

Examples

  • Compare two configuration drafts.
  • Ignore whitespace-only changes.
  • Export a unified review snippet.

Common use cases

Review two configuration drafts before deployment.

Worked synthetic example

Valid example

Old: timeout=5 | New: timeout=10

Expected: One removed line and one added line. The diff shows a textual edit, without assessing operational impact.

Failure or warning to recognize

Invalid/failure example

Comparing a 100,000-line file in a quadratic browser diff.

Expected: Input above the configured size limit reports a limit error instead of attempting an expensive comparison.
