JSON
JSONPath Tester
Paste a JSON document, enter a path, and inspect matched values with their exact locations.
How this tool works
JSONPath is useful when an API response contains repeated arrays or nested objects. The tester supports root, child properties, bracket names and indices, wildcards, and recursive property lookup.
Filters, slices, functions, and unions are not implemented. Query behavior is a documented subset rather than a claim of complete JSONPath compatibility.
Examples
- Select every item ID in an array.
- Read a property whose name contains a space.
- Find nested status properties with recursive lookup.
Common use cases
Worked synthetic example
Valid example
{"items":[{"id":1},{"id":2}]} | $.items[*].id
Expected: Two matches at $.items[0].id and $.items[1].id. The wildcard selects both array entries, not the entire array.
Failure or warning to recognize
Invalid/failure example
Expression $.items[?(@.id)] (filters are outside this supported subset)
Expected: A filter such as $.items[?(@.id)] reports unsupported JSONPath syntax; use a supported path or another evaluator.
