GraphQL Formatter and Syntax Checker

Paste a GraphQL document to check syntax and produce consistently formatted source.

How this tool works

The GraphQL parser recognizes queries, mutations, subscriptions, fragment definitions, and variables. Formatting prints the parsed syntax tree, keeping operation structure visible.

A syntax-valid operation may still fail against a particular schema or server. This tool does not fetch schemas or run operations.

Examples

  • Format a named query with variables.
  • Identify a fragment definition.
  • Catch an incomplete selection set.

Common use cases

Normalize a query before adding it to a test fixture.

Worked synthetic example

Valid example

query Order { order(id: 7) { id } }

Expected: Formatted named query with nested selection. Parsing confirms document syntax, not that order exists in a schema.

Failure or warning to recognize

Invalid/failure example

query Order { order(id: 1) { id } (missing closing brace)

Expected: A missing closing selection brace produces a GraphQL syntax error and no formatted document.
